1 Appold Street

1/2
Image Overview

1 Appold Street seeks to add a full extension of the recently completed Exchange Square design, all the way down to the namesake street, in the form of a gentle meandering path. The path will frame large areas of planting, which will greatly improve the greening of the space. The intention is to transform the existing route into a generous place to spend time and relax, particularly during the lunch period in the early afternoon.

The slope will be supplemented with a series of steps for quicker access, with shared landings through a central stair. This will provide a quicker option for those with less time, as well as providing a generous, direct, stepped approach for the primary route to the building for those with difficulty navigating a graded path. Introducing a slope at Appold Street would provide more equal access to the square for all.

The forms, materiality, and horticultural character of the landscape of 1 Appold Street are informed by Exchange Square. As such, it will complement the nascent biodiversity and tie the proposed building into its setting.
