Image Overview

Connaught Village sits at the meeting point of Hyde Park, Paddington and the West End, a small pocket of Georgian streetscape with independent shops and cafés that has long had very little public space of its own. Unveiled by the Lord Mayor of Westminster in June 2025, Connaught Village Green turns a previously underused junction of Connaught Street, Kendal Street and Titchbourne Row into somewhere people can actually stop.

Designed by DSDHA for the Church Commissioners for England, in partnership with Westminster City Council, the scheme adds new seating, free drinking water, cycle parking and biodiversity-enhancing planting, with widened pavements making the streets safer and easier to move through. Planters soften what was once a car-dominated corner, and the new space gives the village’s shops and restaurants a place to spill into.

It is the product of six years of consultation with the people who live and work here, and the first major public realm improvement in DSDHA’s wider vision for the Hyde Park Estate, a project that sets out what greener, quieter streets could look like across the rest of the neighbourhood.

“This transformation is a meaningful investment in the people who live, work, and visit here. We’re proud to contribute to the continued vitality of Connaught Village”
