The Big Issue, January 2024
Responding to Labour’s pledge to deliver the largest investment to affordable housing in recent times, DSDHA’s Tom Greenall and Jane Wong present an article for The Big Issue that explores the importance of co-design in creating housing that is both affordable and inclusive.
The major concern around Labour’s promise is that developments may lack input from their future tenants. Tom and Jane promote the use of co-design to break down the traditional hierarchy of architect and designer and encourage meaningful participation in the design process from local stakeholders and users.
Citing two significant case studies from architects in London where co-design has played a prominent role, Tom and Jane present a compelling argument for affordable housing that is inclusive and equitable.
